My Story

My name is Darby, and I am the owner of Moonlit Petrichor.

Moonlit Petrichor is a small, eclectic bath and body store located in downtown Warrensburg Missouri.  This is a somewhat new journey for me. I have only been crafting for about 4 - 5 years. I started with tumblers and slowly moved my way through other crafts until I found soap making. I started soap making because I am an empath who feels deeply about the planet and all the creatures that inhabit it.

Around the time I started crafting I met one of my most memorable co workers who was obsessed with recycling and doing all she could to help the planet. I learned from her and have been making small changes in my life ever since. One of the biggest changes I made was using eco-friendly and cruelty-free products as much as possible.

I purchased my first bar of handmade soap from a local small shop and was amazed by the way it made my skin feel! No plastic wrappers or harmful chemicals, just skin nourishing oils. I will admit I am not where I’d like to be in the eco-friendly journey, but I do source my products from websites that take pride in using sustainable dealers. The “plastic” I wrap my products in is eco-friendly and biodegradable and I recycle as much as possible.

It was one of my goals to have a shop that had enough space for others to share in this experience. I am joined by my best friend Ben who does a plethora of things including leather and wood, one of my soul mates Tammy who makes beautiful sun catchers and other sparkly things, Sarah who is a local soap maker who has wonderful all natural products, Alice who makes cute little votives and other small candles, and Michelle with her huge natural bath bombs.

The name Moonlit Petrichor means a lot to me. I am a Cancer sun and Pisces moonchild who has always been drawn to the rain and in love with the moon. I first heard the word Petrichor on an episode of Doctor Who (my favorite show). Petrichor (n.) The smell of Earth after rain. I knew these two things needed to be represented in my business somehow. Moonlit Petrichor has a theme, I mixed Victorian goth with a slight cottage core “witch” vibe to create this whimsical, calm vintage atmosphere. I myself am a goth girl at heart. I incorporate Victorian touches in as many outfits as I can. I’ve also felt like I was born to be a witch from a very young age. Don’t let the word “witch” scare you. It doesn’t mean what you think it does.
